Our Story
Our Story
There is a hallway I keep returning to in memory.
My mother standing in front of the mirror, draping a saree she had chosen the way she chose everything — with absolute certainty. Her hands knew fabric the way a musician knows notes. She could identify a real Kani by the sound it made when held to light. She knew the weight of genuine Pashmina before she'd even unfolded it fully. She had a word for a piece that was truly exceptional — *kya cheez Pesh hai* — and when she said it, you understood that something rare had just entered the room.
As children, we used her wardrobe as our first runway. We draped her oversized dupattas across our shoulders, cinched her sarees with small hands, and waited for that one specific look — the one where her eyes lit up, seeing in us the women we were yet to become.
That look was everything.
She moved to the stars last year. And in the silence she left behind, I realised that what we had shared through fabric — the way a certain weave could spark a memory, the way a particular drape could carry an entire feeling — was too beautiful and too important to let go of.
PESH is my tribute to her. To her eye, her knowledge, and her belief that the right fabric on the right woman is never just clothing — it is a statement of who she is and what she carries with her.
What We Believe
We believe that Indian craft is not a category. It is a living conversation between the hands that made something and the woman who wears it.
A Kani saree is not just a pattern. It is months of a weaver's memory — the design held entirely in his mind, translated thread by thread through wooden spools called Kanis, on a handloom in a village in Kashmir. A Jamawari silk carries the motif vocabulary of Mughal courts. An Aari-embroidered suit is the result of a needle technique so demanding that the craft is passed from parent to child, not taught in any classroom.
These stories deserve to be worn. Not archived. Not forgotten. Worn.
What PESH Is
PESH is a curated house of authentic Indian handloom and handcraft — rooted in Kashmir, reaching across India, designed for the modern woman who knows where she comes from and wears that knowledge with pride.
We work directly with artisans and weavers who have inherited their craft across generations. Every piece we carry is chosen with the same standard my mother applied in that hallway — not just beautiful, but *right*. Right in its craft. Right in its honesty. Right in the story it tells when someone asks, as they always do: *where is this from?*
We are not a marketplace. We do not list everything. We curate. Because we believe that owning one extraordinary handcrafted piece — a piece you understand, a piece with a name and a history — is worth more than a wardrobe full of things that mean nothing.
For Every Woman Who Carries Her Roots With Her
PESH is for the working woman in Delhi who wants to walk into a room wearing something with real substance behind it.
It is for the daughter who grew up watching her mother choose fabric the way others choose words — carefully, meaningfully, with full knowledge of what she was saying.
It is for the woman in London or New York or Toronto who wants to wear India — not as nostalgia, but as identity. Not as costume, but as confidence.
It is for every woman who has ever been told that heritage and modernity are in tension, and has known, instinctively, that they are not.
PESH is that certainty, made wearable.
A Note From the Founder
Building PESH has been the most personal thing I have ever done. Every piece in our collection has been chosen with my mother in mind — with the question she would have asked standing in that hallway: *is this real? Is this worthy?*
I don't know if she can see what I've built. But I know that if she could hold any one of our sarees up to the light and hear it, she would nod. Quietly. With that look.
That is the only standard that matters to me.
